I was not excited about tonight's date with Non-LP. This was the first date I set up after sending out my blog link to people, and I had started worrying that I wouldn't be able to get any dates at all. This was the one that I thought was an LP (Little Person). But, I'm not allowed to cancel, so I met him tonight in Chinatown.
Besides seeing his little pictures, I knew that Non-LP was 25, " 5'8 ", well-traveled, a grad student, a skier, and intelligent.
We met at Fado in Chinatown, an Irish pub chain restaurant with a nice beer selection but no happy hour specials. I didn't realize, but tonight was pub trivia. It didn't start until 8:00 though, and I was so tired from not sleeping well last night that I told him I'd need a rain check.
When I saw Non-LP, I was very pleasantly surprised. He was not a little person (check), and he was much, much cuter than in his pictures. He was well dressed and wore glasses, which I have always liked. We were comfortable with each other and I laughed a lot. Non-LP is VERY well traveled, and we did have a lot in common. He is kind of a typical DC guy. At one point, he pulled out his ID badge, thinking it would impress me. Hmm. Wrong person to show that off to. He is working on a masters in public policy, and his specialty in pub trivia is politics. My specialty, on the other hand, is pop culture. I know that in DC, I have to expect that men will be into politics, but I just hope that we can find other things to connect on. Now, Non-LP also knew the boy band that sang "Calculus", so I gave him a high five for that (the band was 2Gether...and I should stop talking boy bands on my first dates).
Pretty quickly, I was glad I didn't cancel. I had a good time, but Non-LP was bringing on the flirtation hard core and I wasn't really feeling it. For example, he kept patting my leg and brushing my hand. When he came back from the restroom, he suavely slid his stool superclosetomine. I think he wanted to stay longer, but I told him I should be heading home. Again, we walked to the metro, hugged goodbye, and said we'd talk later.
